József Sándor MD, PhD, FACS Professor of Surgery (1960) at Semmelweis University, Scientific Advisory of Department of Surgical Research and Techniques, graduated at the same university in 1965, qualified in general surgery (1970), obtained his PhD degree in 1997. He started his surgical work at St. István Hospital, continued from 1970 at Semmelweis University. During his more than 50 years surgical activity, research and education he was an invited lecturer at Harvard, Yale, Aarhus, Singapore, UCLA, Keio, etc. universities and was a visting professor at Saitama University (Japan). His main interests are surgical research, gastrointestinal, laparoscopic, robotic and space surgery. He is a foundig member of International Federation of Surgical Endoscopic Societies (IFSES), founding Co-.President of Japan-Hungary-Poland Surgical Society and was a Councillor at the Executive Committee of International Surgical Society. He was elected Honory Member of Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), Japan Society of Endoscopic Surgeons (JSES), Association of Polish Surgeons (APS). He had a pioneer role to start laparoscopic surgery in Hungary.
