Our University introduced an innovative disaster medicine curriculum in recent years for the first time in Hungary and in Central Europe. This textbook is a distinguished sign of the endeavour, by which foreign-language medical students studying in Hungary may access the required knowledge in greater and greater numbers. The justification and timeliness of this project was demonstrated by the lessons learnt from managing natural and man-made disasters in recent times, including the necessity to address the issues of compromise medicine.
The general medical aspects of disasters, organizational, preventative, diagnostic and therapeutic issues were scrutinized by Hungarian and international authors and reviewers, who possess extensive experience and a broad spectrum of skills in the field of health care, with roots originating in NATO and UN deployments. By analyzing the disaster medicine losses of the past decades, the lessons learnt from the deployments of Hungarian medical contingents were carefully incorporated by the authors into the repository of classical knowledge.
